Chipboard screws are specially made screws for particle boards, chipboards, MDF and other engineered wood. They have coarse threads and a self-tapping tip. This helps them bite into soft wood properly. Most have a cross-recessed head so the screw sits flush or just slightly under the surface.
These screws are used in furniture, cabinets, shelves, wardrobes, cupboards basically all interior wood projects. If you use wrong screws, panels can split, joints come loose, furniture wobbles or falls apart. Not good.
In India the BIS standard IS 18508:2024 tells exactly how these screws should be. It covers dimensions, material, mechanical strength, coatings, marking and packaging. This ensures screws are strong, safe and reliable.
Since 2024 BIS certification is mandatory for chipboard screws. The government issued a Quality Control Order (QCO) to enforce this
The ISI mark acts like a quality seal. It tells buyers the screws are tested and meet Indian safety standards. Furniture makers, carpenters, retailers can rely on it
