This is exactly why the Bureau of Indian Standards enforces strict rules for such products. The goal is straightforward: reduce hazards and ensure that every unit sold in the market meets a minimum safety benchmark.
Under IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 7): 2010, washing machines must meet defined safety requirements before they can be sold in India.
This standard focuses on safety. Not marketing claims. Not performance features. Safety.
It applies to domestic electric clothes washing machines operating within specified voltage limits generally up to 250V for single-phase appliances and higher for other configurations.
The scope is wide enough to include machines used in homes and similar environments, even if they are installed in shared or semi-commercial spaces.

Only after both testing and inspection are cleared does the certification get issued.
And even then, compliance doesn’t end. BIS expects consistency in every batch you produce.
