The body that manages this is the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) or the Pollution Control Committee (PCC) in Union Territories. They enforce the rules made by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)

The SPCB gives you permission in two parts: Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consent to Operate (CTO). You need the CTE before you buy and install the generator. It ensures the location is suitable.
