2. Wholesale Drug License (WDL)

If your business is about supplying drugs to retailers or hospitals, a Wholesale Drug License is required

3. Manufacturing Drug License

Who Can Apply for a Drug License?

Not everyone can apply for a drug license. You must meet certain conditions:

• You must have a degree or diploma in pharmacy (B.Pharm or D.Pharm), or
• You must employ someone who has the required qualifications
• Your premises should meet the area and storage requirements.
• Your business should not be near schools or religious places.

For wholesale licenses, a graduate with at least 1 year of experience in drug sales or a person with 4 years of experience can also apply.

Area Requirements for Drug License in UP

The premises where you plan to run your business must meet space conditions:

• Retail and Wholesale Premises: Minimum 10 square meters.
• Retail + Wholesale Combined: Minimum 15 square meters.
• The place must have clean surroundings, good ventilation, and proper lighting.

• Proof of ownership or rental agreement of premises

Steps to Apply for Drug License in UP

Step 1: Register on the UP Drug Portal

Visit the official UP Drugs Control Department website. Register through email ID and phone number. Create a username and password.

Step 2: Fill the Online Application

Log in with your ID and fill in the application form. Choose the correct license type – Retail, Wholesale, or Manufacturing.

Step 3: Upload the Documents

Scan and upload all the required documents. Ensure the files are readable.

Step 4: Pay the Application Fee

The fee depends on the type of license. Pay through the available online payment methods.

Step 5: Inspection of Premises

After your document is verified. A Drug Inspector will visit your premises. They will check space, cleanliness, and storage facilities.

Step 6: Issuance of License

If everything is found in order, you’ll get your license within 30 to 60 days.  

Renewal and Validity of Drug License

The license is valid for five years. After that, you must apply for renewal. Apply before the expiry date so you can avoid penalties.

The renewal process is similar to the new application, but you may only need to update documents instead of submitting new ones.
