The first step is understanding the right type of drug license. In UP, there are mainly three categories:
If you want to open a pharmacy or chemist shop and sell drugs directly to customers, you need a Retail Drug License
If your business is about supplying drugs to retailers or hospitals, a Wholesale Drug License is required
If you plan to make drugs or medicines yourself, then you need a Manufacturing License, which is issued by the State Drug Controller or Central Licensing Authority, depending on the product type

For wholesale licenses, a graduate with at least 1 year of experience in drug sales or a person with 4 years of experience can also apply.

Submit these documents while applying for drug license in UP:
Visit the official UP Drugs Control Department website. Register through email ID and phone number. Create a username and password.
Log in with your ID and fill in the application form. Choose the correct license type – Retail, Wholesale, or Manufacturing.
Scan and upload all the required documents. Ensure the files are readable.
The fee depends on the type of license. Pay through the available online payment methods.
After your document is verified. A Drug Inspector will visit your premises. They will check space, cleanliness, and storage facilities.
If everything is found in order, you’ll get your license within 30 to 60 days.
The license is valid for five years. After that, you must apply for renewal. Apply before the expiry date so you can avoid penalties.
The renewal process is similar to the new application, but you may only need to update documents instead of submitting new ones.
