What is LMPC Certificate?

Rule 27 of the Legal Metrology Packaged Commodity Rules requires obtaining an LMPC certificate before importing pre-packaged commodities for sale or distribution in the country. According to the Department of Consumer Affairs, importers or manufacturers who sell pre-packaged commodities in one state must submit an application to the Controller of Legal Metrology in that state. Importers, on the other hand, must register with the Center's Director if they sell in many states

- Company incorporation certificate only in case of private limited.

Registration Process of LMPC Certificate
Registering packed commodities in India involves a series of steps:
Step 1: Application Submission: Manufacturers, Packers or Importers need to submit an application for registration to the Controller of Legal Metrology of their respective state.
Step 2: Inspection and Verification: Upon receiving the application, the Controller of Legal Metrology may conduct an inspection of the manufacturing premises to ensure compliance with packaging and labelling standards.
Step 3: Fee Payment: A registration fee is usually required, and it varies depending on factors such as the type and quantity of commodities to be registered.
Step 4: Issuance of Registration Certificate: Once the application is approved and all requirements are met, the Controller of Legal Metrology issues a Registration Certificate.
Step 5: Renewal: Packed commodity registration is typically valid for a certain period, after which it needs to be renewed. Renewal ensures that the manufacturer or packer continues to meet the required standards.
